Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is the retelling of Sleeping Beauty but with a twist. It is beautiful and devastating all at once. I first saw this book among a list of novels that retold fairy tales differently than we are accustomed to. As I started reading this novel I was expecting a fantasy novel, (maybe Gemma is Briar Rose and Rebacca has a throne awaiting her) but was greatly surprised. Read more
